About me: My name is Hope Garrity. I am seventeen and mostly homeschooled. I have been taking art and spanish at Bedford High School. I have won the outstanding artist award at Bedford three years running, and have won a couple other art awards as well. I have also had my artwork displayed in the Focus show at BG last year, and will have more displayed at this year's Focus show at UT. I am currently looking at art schools and plan to major in an art related field.
Class goals: My number one goal for this class is to take every student at his/her talent level, and help him to move forward in his journey as an artist. As time allows, we will be exploring a little bit of color theory, still-life, and self-portraiture. We will also hopefully get to do some one-point perspective, landscape, and a little bit of multimedia. All of these projects I have planned are easily adaptable to your student's age, talent level, and interests. Depending on how quickly the students finish their projects, we may or may not get to all of the projects I just outlined. However, you can rest assured that your students will receive well rounded and personal instruction in a variety of media and projects. If students do not finish their projects in class, they can take them home to finish them. I will also assign minimal homework. Your student will not be required to complete it, but I think that it would greatly benefit them to do a little bit of work at home on the weeks we don't have class.
Supplies: These are items that your student will need for this class. If you have them at home or want to purchase them yourself, great. But if you would like me to purchase them for you, I can do that and you can reimburse me. Please email me if you want me to get them for you.
regular pencil
8 or 12 set of colored pencils (Crayola is preferable)
basic watercolor set (again, Crayola has a nice set)
White glue
This is all your student will need for this class, but if your student would like to use something else, say ballpoint pen for example, he/she would be welcome to bring that in and I will instruct them in that medium. For some projects I will require that all the students work in a specific medium, but other projects will be open to his/her choice. One thing that I will NOT allow students to bring in is paint. No paint. I say that because it is messy and in most cases extremely difficult to clean up. If your student is interested in using a medium other than pencil, colored pencil, or watercolor, please let me know at the beginning of the session so I can tell you if that would be feasible.
Cost: I will be providing paper and erasers, as well as various other supplies needed for specific projects out of a $5 supplies fee per student. The actual lessons will be $20 per student for the first session (12 weeks- 6 lessons).
*There is a $5.00 registration fee per family for The Classical Tutor.
