SEPTEMBER 23, 2010

MINI HERO CAMP

9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Ages 7-10
First Hour – Fire Safety and how to properly use a fire extinguisher.
This module will present the methods for teaching the students to work with their parents in designing a home fire escape plan and identify the major hazards in a home that typically cause a fire. It culminates with hands on training using our fire extinguisher training system to teach the students how to properly use a fire extinguisher in the home.
Second Hour – Basic First Aid
This module provides the students with the knowledge of when to call 911. It also provides them the ability to provide basic first aid in the home. Topics include; how to stop bleeding, splinting potential fractures using household materials, how to open an airway and give artificial respiration. Held at Owens Center for Emergency Preparedness on Tracy Road
Cost: $15.00

9 a.m. – 11 a.m.
Ages 11-14
First Hour – Basic First Aid

In addition, this course also will also cover issues appropriate for older students such as changing batteries in smoke detectors and conducting a home fire drill. It culminates with hands on training using our fire extinguisher training system to teach the students how to properly use a fire extinguisher in the home. Held at Owens Center for Emergency Preparedness on Tracy Rd.
Cost: $15

OCTOBER 13, 2010
(Pricing for these classes are the same per hour, however, there is an additional cost for equipment.) These classes are open to students of all ages. There is no age breakdown.
All music and magic classes will be held at Arrowhead Park Learning Center, Maumee OH.

MUSIC AND MAGIC WORKSHOPS

9:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Mountain Dulcimer Workshop: People who live in the Appalachian Region of the United
States have played the mountain dulcimer for decades. Come learn to play this wonderful 3 stringed American instrument and receive your own mountain dulcimer to take home. Learn to play at least 10 songs on the dulcimer. No prior musical training or experience is necessary. If you have never played an instrument before, this workshop is for you!
The cost of this 3-hour workshop is: $50.00

Noon – 1:30 p.m.
Harmonica Workshop : This 2-hour workshop will teach participants how to play the harmonica. We will explore how to read harmonica music; how to play the instrument; and how to translate any song into harmonica tablature so that you can play it on the harmonica. Participants will receive their own harmonica to take home and will leave the workshop having played at least 10 songs. No prior musical training is necessary. The cost of the workshop is: $30.00

2:00 p.m. – 3:30 p.m.
Ukulele Workshop: People who live in the Pacific Islands have played the Ukulele for decades. Portuguese Sailors who played the ukulele spread the instrument throughout the pacific. Workshop goers will learn to play this wonderful 4 stringed instrument. Participants will receive their own ukulele to take home and will learn to play at least 7 songs on the ukulele. Participants will learn to strum the instrument properly; tune the ukulele in both standard and open tuning; and learn how to read a chord chart. No prior musical training or experience is necessary. The cost of this 2-hour workshop is: $50.00

4:00 p.m. – 5:30 p.m.
Magic Close Up Workshop: This 2-hour workshop will teach participants how to perform magic tricks within 2 feet of onlookers. We will explore the techniques of performing each trick as well as how to present the illusion to an audience of 1 or more. Participants will learn a minimum of 10 tricks consisting of coin, rope, restoration, and card illusions. Workshop fee includes the magic supplies for participants to take home. The cost is: $30.00

NOVEMBER 16

ARCHAEOLOGY
These classes will be held at the Arrowhead Park Learning Center

9:30 a.m. – 11:30 a.m.
Holly Higginbotham and the Mystical Artifact (K-3rd grade)
This is a class for the young explorers out there. This class takes young explorers will put on their explorer hats as they "journey" to around the world looking for lost cities and ancient relics. Since the end of the 19th century, explorers searched for these mythical civilizations. Students will travel the globe to explore these sites and learn about some of the greatest archaeological finds of the 20th century.
Cost: $15

1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.
Exploring Archaeology (4th-8th grade)
Ever watch Indiana Jones or Laura Croft and wonder what the true study of archaeology was like? Join archaeologist Jeremy Freeman and learn about the science of archaeology. Archaeologists are scientists that study the past. In this class students will learn how archaeologists study the past in this hands-on class. Students will learn about how to find sites set up a grid and excavate a site in a simulated archaeological dig.
Cost: $15
